Shelly Sweeney was just 11 when she was targeted by school bullies. After a year of suffering punches and kicks during lunch breaks, she decided to fight back.  The group of girls who bullied her made her so angry that she moved school and decided to try a new sport.

She went to Harrow Amateur Boxing Club with her uncle Russell Sweeney, who is a coach there, to have a trial session.

Shelly, a student at Harrow High School, said: “I loved it – it was great. It has really taught me how to deal with my anger."

Shelly is now Harrow Amateur Boxing Club's new female champion and Harrow and District's first licensed female boxer.

Shelly's personal experience and dedicated boxing journey is an inspiration to SweetScience students.
