BBC YOUR GAME 2009..

SweetScience coaches have not been sat around over the summer holidays, over the six weeks they have been covering much ground.

From Cardiff to Belfast from Hull to Glasgow to London SweetScience coaches Leroy Nicholas, Alex Fryer and Patrick Sago have been working alongside the BBC to bring the noble art of non contact boxing into hundreds of youngsters backyards.

This is the second year running that the BBC have asked SweetScience to work with them on their long running and successful Your Game festivals, the response that we got last year was so positive that they wanted to see if we could repeat it…and we did indeed.

In Cardiff we had  Mike Dixon and his talented team from Llantwit ABC come along and give displays and help coach some of the fresh talent.

Hull gave us some of the best female boxers of the festivals with the fantastic Gordon Haig and his team from Hull saints ABC there to witness it and help out coaching.

Peter 17’ from Hull said “ This is great I was all stressed out when I came here, I had the right hump but after that go on the pads with you im buzzin”

Belfast lent us the genius of Mr Gerry Storey, none other than former world champion Barry McGuigans amateur trainer as well as Tony Upton and his four very talented sons who hold 9 national titles between them. The Upton lads were great at giving the crowds the confidence and encouragement to have a go on the pads and they gave a skipping display that had the crowd screaming.

Glasgow saw the coaches working non stop with crowds that kept coming back for more.

SweetScience coaches came out in force at the London final Lloyd Heaven, Jamal Joseph, Paul Brown as well as Alex Fryer and Leroy Nicholas.

With this being the final it was also the busiest and we never stopped coaching the interest was that high,  we came across some real promising individuals that at one point had experienced coach Lloyd Heaven shaking his head in disbelief.

Rosie 19, who won the ladies SweetScience BBC trophy for best boxer said “ Thank you so much, I have always wanted to try this but I did not want to just go to a gym , but this is great.. I love it”
